Support
Answers to the practical questions first. If what you need isn't here, email us and we'll help.
Please never send us documents, photos of documents or document numbers by email. We do not need them and we will not ask for them.
Backup and restore
Papira has no account and no cloud sync, so moving to a new phone is a deliberate act you control.
- In Settings, choose Create backup. Pick a password — this is what encrypts the file.
- Save the backup file wherever you keep important files. It is useless to anyone without your password.
- On the new phone, install Papira and choose Restore. Select the file and enter the password.
- You can restore into an empty app, or merge the backup into what is already there.
There is no way for us to recover a backup password. If you lose it, the file cannot be opened — by you or by anyone else. Write it down somewhere safe.
Subscriptions and purchases
Subscriptions are managed by the store you bought them from, not inside Papira.
- iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- Android: Google Play → profile picture → Payments and subscriptions.
- Changed phone or reinstalled? Open Papira, go to Plans and choose Restore purchases, using the same store account.
When a subscription ends, everything you already created stays accessible, editable and exportable. Only creating new items beyond your plan's allowance is paused.
Reminders that don't arrive
Reminders depend on your phone's own rules for background apps. If one doesn't arrive:
- Check that notifications are allowed for Papira in your phone's settings.
- On Android, exclude Papira from battery optimisation or 'restricted' background use.
- Check that the reminder is actually set on the document, and that the document has an expiry date.
- Make sure the phone's date and time are automatic.
Permissions
Papira asks for a permission only at the moment it needs one — the camera when you photograph a document, files when you import one, notifications for reminders, biometrics if you turn on biometric unlocking. Declining a permission disables that one feature and nothing else.
Deleting your data
Delete an item in the app and it is removed from your device. Uninstalling Papira removes its encrypted store along with it. We hold no copy, so there is nothing for you to ask us to erase — and nothing we could restore afterwards.
